Puri: After the eviction drive around Puri Srimandir, the local administration has launched beautification drive to ensure a green cover near the 12th century shrine.

As per reports, trees ranging from 4-ft to 15-ft long are being planted in the area under the new barricade in front of the Singhadwar facing Radhaballabh Mutt. Trees like sea almond, sarka indica, neem, bogun villa, swarna champa and rajia are being planted.

All the beautification works have been taken up by Odisha Bridge Construction Corporation as the State government had planned to create a green environment for devotees after the eviction work.

Speaking about the plantation drive, Additional Collector of Puri, Binay Kumar Das said, "Decorative plants are being planted near the Singhadwar so that devotees will experience a beautiful environment near the temple."

Similarly, senior servitor Binayak Dasmohapatra said, "There is no problem in beautification near the temple but if the trees are not taken care of, the entire fund used to bring the saplings from horticulture will be wasted."
