Berhampur: Intensifying crackdown on adulterated food manufacturing units in the State, Berhampur police on Thursday busted an adulterated spice and chilli manufacturing factory at Badabazaar Pandav Nagar area in the town.

Acting on a tip off, the police conducted a raid on the food processing unit and seized huge cache of adulterated spices and raw material processing machines.

"I have been operating this manufacturing unit for the last two months. I used to procure turmeric and chilli powder from outside and mix rice powder in them. Later, I sell the items in the local market," Lingaraj Patra, the owner of the factory said, adding that he procured the packets and labels of branded companies from Raipur.

Earlier yesterday, a joint squad of Odisha Police and Food Safety officials busted an adulterated sauce and pickle manufacturing unit at Pahala on the outskirts Bhubaneswar, on Wednesday.

Cops made a swoop at P K Food Product and confiscated the stock of adulterated sauce and pickles. They also seized packaging machines, chemicals, artificial colour, essence and huge quantity of raw materials meant to make the edible commodities.
