Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday busted a fake edible oil manufacturing unit in Champakuda area of Phulnakhara and detained two persons, the owner and manager of the unit in connection with the incident.

After receiving input about running of adulterated oil manufacturing unit in the outskirts of the city, a team of Cuttack Sadar police station conducted surprise raid and seized more than 30,000 litres of adulterated edible oil stashed in the unit. Police also seized an oil-laden truck, several containers, labels of various brands from the spot.

The duplicate oil manufactured in the unit used to be supplied to various wholesalers in the districts of Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal and Angul under various brands like Power, Shiv, Khusi Gold, Omm and White House, said sources. This apart, the spurious cooking oil was also smuggled for marketing outside Odisha.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.

The Commissionerate Police had also earlier busted such spurious cooking oil manufacturing units in Khannagar and Jagatpur area of the Silver City. Moreover, lubricant (engine oil) manufacturing units and fake cement factory were also busted in the city in the past.
