Cuttack: In a major crackdown, the Commissionerate Police, on Sunday unearthed an adulterated cement manufacturing factory in Jagatpur Industrial Estate near Cuttack and arrested the owner of the unit.

As many as 7500 fake cement bags, 300 bags of different cement brands and machineries were seized during the raid.

“Owner of the factory Lalit Kumar Jain, has been arrested,” informed police.

Jain, who had purchased the franchise of a particular cement brand, reportedly used cement from damaged packets of the consignment to prepare an adulterated mix of the product. This, was repackaged and supplied along with the original cement packets.

However, the factory owner refuted the allegations

" I have done nothing illegal. At the factory, we only used to repackage the cement recovered from damaged bags. I also have the license to sell cement bags," said Jain.

“The accused is being questioned. More details will be known after investigation,” informed the police.

The factory was operational for the last 8 to 9 years, informed sources
