Puri: Academic session at the Puri Medical College and Hospital will begin this year, informed DMET director CBK Mohanty on Wednesday. The student intake capacity of the medical colleges is 100 per year.

Mohanty, who was in Puri for an inspection of the district hospital and infrastructural development at the medical college, said, "Admission of students in the medical college will start from this year. We have received admission permission for 100 seats."

He further informed that the Puri medical college and hospital will have a capacity of 750 beds.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had laid the foundation stone of the Puri medical college and hospital in 2015 under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).

Earlier, the then Chief Secretary of Odisha, Asit Tripathy had directed health department officials to expedite and ensure all necessary arrangements for enabling conduct of classes at the college, including in the medical colleges at Talcher and Sundergarh.
