Bhubaneswar: The Konark Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court on Thursday rejected the bail plea of Delhi-based journalist Abhijit Iyer-Mitra who was arrested by the Commissionerate Police on October 24 for making derogatory remarks on Odisha and Konark Sun Temple.

After rejection of bail plea, Mitra has been sent to Nimapara sub-jail where he will stay in judicial custody till November 5.

Konark police has sought a two-day remand of Mitra from the JMFC, Konark as part of further interrogation into the matter.

Sources said Mitra has been charged with 153 (A), 395 (A), 298 (A), 34 of IPC and 66 IT Act.

This is the second time that the court has rejected his bail plea. Earlier, Iyer was sent to a 14-day judicial custody and lodged at Jharpara jail after his bail plea was rejected by the Bhubaneswar Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM).

Hours after appearing before the House Committee of the Odisha Assembly, Mitra was arrested by Commissionerate Police in connection with a case registered against him at Sahid Nagar Police Station over his derogatory remarks on Odisha and Konark Sun Temple.
