Puri: Eight six persons have been arrested so far by Puri police in connection with violence during Puri Bandh on October 3 protesting the introduction ‘Dhadi Darshan’ or ‘Queue System’ inside Puri Srimandir.

Informing the development, Puri Superintendent of Police (SP), Sarthak Sarangi said 45 persons have been arrested by Singhadwara police and 41 by Town Police.

"Till now 86 persons have been arrested and currently we are examining CCTV camera footages of prominent locations where violence had erupted to establish the identity of those involved in ransacking of public property," said Sarangi.

It is pertinent to mention here that large-scale violence was reported during the 12-hour shut down called by socio-cultural outfit Sri Jagannath Sena protesting introduction of queue system for devotees at the Jagannath temple on October 3.

During the bandh, protestors were seen vandalizing property at the residence of local MLA and Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty, temple office, tourist information centre and property at different places.
