Baripada: An eight-feet-long python was rescued from the backyard of a house at Baniabasa village under Udala block of Mayurbhanj district today.

According to sources, the snake was spotted near the hen house in the backyard of one Dashrath Hembram. According to sources, the snake had already preyed on a hen.

After spotting the reptile, locals alerted the forest department of Udala division.

On receiving information, the forest officials along with snake helpline members rushed to the spot and rescued the snake.

The snake was later released into the Similipal forest reserve area.
