Balasore: A seven-year-old girl has been allegedly raped under Soro police limits in Balasore district. The incident occurred when the minor girl had gone to attend a marriage function in the village, police said on Sunday.

The accused Manindra Mallick from Purushotampur village allegedly abducted the minor girl and raped her near a lift irrigation point, sources said.

Mallick was arrested after the family members of the victim filed a complaint at Soro police station in connection with the incident.

The police have sent the accused and the victim for a medical examination.

“The accused committed the crime when the mother of the minor girl was busy in the marriage ceremony. After the medical examination, the accused will be forwarded to the court today,” said Inspector-in-charge of Soro police station, Dilip Kumar Sahu.

There seems to be no end to the crime against women as earlier another 7-year-old was raped by her tuition teacher in Kendrapara district on Friday.

According to reports, the accused teacher Ganesh Nayak misbehaved and later raped the minor girl after the tuition class.

The matter came to light after some neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing the screams of the girl.

The minor girl’s family detained the accused teacher and handed him to police.

Meanwhile, Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda tweeted, "It's become sickeningly regular in recent years: according to the latest statistics from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), between 2014-2016 crimes against minors increased 19% nationally. In Odisha they increased by 50%."
