7 Excise Officials Injured In Attack By Liquor Mafia In Bhadrak's Mirzapur

Bhadrak: 7 Excise department officials were injured after they were allegedly attacked by miscreants belonging to a local liquor mafia in Mirzapur under the Old Bazaar Police limits of Bhadrak.

An official from Excise Department said that Mirzapur village has been in news for the illegal sale of liquor and frequent raids are conducted in the area to curb such activities.

However, in a raid conducted today at 1 pm, the officials seized a huge quantity of illegal liquor and caught hold of one person selling it. While the excise officials were busy conducting the paper works following the raid, a group of more than 15 people allegedly belonging to the liquor mafia made an ambush and attacked the officials. They forcefully took away the seized liquor along with the person who was nabbed by the officials.

The official further added, "We were attacked with bamboo sticks, stones and sharp objects. We called the nearest police station for help as soon as we were attacked and later rescued by the police. The miscreants also took away the seizure list," he said.
