Kandhamal: Despite tall claims of Odisha government, people in several parts including remote parts in the State are still deprived of basic requisites including proper road connectivity.

This is forcing people in several pockets to risk their lives to cross rivers and nullahs on a daily basis.

The sorry state of affairs got highlighted again after six women were injured while crossing a river with the help of 'electric wires' in Daringbadi block in Kandhamal district.

According to reports, the injured women hailing from Burangia village were swept away by water after the wires they clung from during their attempt to cross the swelling river, snapped.

However, a group of locals managed to rescue the women and immediately rushed them to the hospital following the mishap. The entire incident was captured on camera.

Sources said due to absence of a bridge, locals depend on temporary arrangements to cross the river.

"We are facing problems due to absence of bridge in the region," said a local villager.
