Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police on Sunday suspended six police personnel including one havildar and five constables deployed for security of gangster Hyder who escaped from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Saturday.

While the suspended havildar has been identified as Ramesh Chandra Dehuri the constables are Bulbul Sahu, Deepak Sahu, Mohammed Mausim, Umakant Behera and Sudhansu Majhi, informed Sambalpur SP B Gangadhar.

Odisha Police officials are in touch with senior officials of bordering states like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal police and stress is being given to nab the gangster based on intelligence inputs.

Odisha DGP Abhay today reviewed the ongoing operations which are currently underway to apprehend the gangster.

“As per the DGP’s instruction, five to six teams have been formed to nab the gangster who is now on the run. We are keeping a close surveillance at airports, railway routes, stations, road routes and bus stands. The CCTV footage has been examined and the security guard on duty has also been questioned. All the necessary measures are being taken and hopefully the gangster will be arrested soon,” said Crime Branch ADG Yashwant Jethwa.

Hyder reportedly escaped from ward No.5 of the surgery ward of SCB after overpowering an APR guard who was on his security duty. He was lodged in Sambalpur circle jail and was shifted to SCB a couple of days back after undergoing preliminary treatment for some illness from Vimsar, Burla.
