Bhadrak: Once again bringing the dwindling state of healthcare system in Odisha to the fore, another pregnant woman had to deliver her baby on the verandah of Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) today.

The woman, Ranulata Khillar, a resident of Taldumuka village under Tihidi block of the district was admitted to the hospital for delivery but citing her critical condition, the doctor referred her to SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack. However, the woman, who was reportedly in labour pain, delivered a baby on the hospital verandah.

It was alleged that no doctors and nurses were present at the spot during the delivery. Some local women helped Ranulata to deliver her baby. After the matter was reported in media, the woman was admitted to a ward at the DHH.

It is being said that due to preparations ahead of Secretary of Transformation and Initiatives (5T), V K Pandian's visit, the hospital authorities referred the woman to Cuttack hospital. No comments could be obtained from the hospital authorities in this regard.

Earlier on Saturday, a pregnant woman delivered her baby on footpath on Capital Hospital premises in Bhubaneswar. The woman, narrating her shocking ordeal, levelled serious allegations of apathetic attitude by hospital authorities.
