Nuapada: The Khariar Police on Saturday arrested four persons from Arada area in Nuapada district and seized nearly 480 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup from their possession. Acting on a tip-off on the illegal transportation, a team of police personnel intercepted the accused while they were returning after unloading the drugs consignment from a bus.

"The police team intercepted two bikes and recovered 480 bottles of corex cough syrup packed in three cartoons from them. The contraband was seized in presence of executive magistrate and drugs inspector," informed Inspector-in-Charge of Khariar Police Station, Sudananda Pujahari.

"The consignment had come from Cuttack and we had gone to receive the cough syrup," said an accused Ganesh Sahoo.

Although it is yet to be ascertained where the consignment was to be transported, further investigation is on as it is being suspected that the contraband would have been smuggled outside the State.

Earlier on January 25, Komna police had arrested two persons and seized 30 bottles of illegal cough syrup from their possession in Nuapada.
