Sambalpur: A 40-year-old woman has been allegedly gang-raped by two persons in a forest in Kuchinda area of Sambalpur when she was returning home alone from a relative's place.

The incident, which took place at around 10 AM on Monday, came to light a day later when her family members rushed her to hospital following deterioration of her health condition.

The survivor's family on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the Kuchinda police, who immediately launched an investigation and arrested two persons on charges of sexual assault.

As per the allegations, the woman returning home from her relative's house decided to take the short-cut through the forests when she was accosted by two men and forcibly taken deep into the forests before being sexually assaulted. The accused then fled the scene leaving her unconscious.

Hours later, the survivor somehow managed to reach her home but did not reveal anything before her family members as she was threatened with dire consequences. However, a day later she fell ill and was rushed to the hospital where they learnt that she has been raped.

The family reported the matter to the local police station and an FIR was lodged, based on which police initiated a probe. Two persons have been arrested while further investigation in this connection is on.
