Cuttack: In a rare surgery, a tumour weighing 40 kg was removed from the uterus of a woman at Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre in Cuttack recently. As per reports, the tumour was growing inside the body of a woman identified as Shakuntala Majhi, a resident of Angul district, for last 10 years.

After a primary health check-up, a 5-member team of doctors including Dr Manoranjan Mohapatra of maternity ward had conducted the surgery successfully on October 25 which continued for 2 hours.

Mohapatra informed that after the surgery, Majhi was completely healthy.

"Due to cancer, a 18 by 15 inch big tumour was growing inside the woman's uterus. She was carrying it for the past 10 years. It was a big challenge for us to remove the tumour as she was suffering from infection. After the surgery, her health condition is normal," said Dr Mohapatra.
