Cuttack: Four youths sustained critical injuries after they were beaten up near Boula Chhak by locals of Bidanasi area in Cuttack district on suspicion of cattle theft.

The incident happened last night soon after the four youths entered Bidanasi area in a vehicle. Suspecting them to be cattle thieves, a few locals caught hold of them and assaulted them physically. Though the youths tried to flee the spot, they failed to do so as their vehicles were burnt by the locals.

On the other hand, president of Bidanasi village committee Dilip Behera accepted the fact that illegal cattle transport is rampant in the area. However, he said that he was unaware of Sunday night incident.

“All of us are unaware of the incident. After getting information, we reached the spot. An FIR has been lodged at Bidanasi police station in connection with the incident” said Behera.

Meanwhile, the injured youths have been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Reports of cattle theft had recently surfaced from Bidanasi and Sector 10 and 11 which is why the locals were prepositioned in the area to find out who actually is involved in the incidents.
