Berhampur: Police on Sunday seized four vehicles belonging to the family members and associates of the arrested former Congress MLA Ramesh Jena.

According to police sources, two Mahindra Scorpios, a Toyota Innova and a Volkswagen Jetta were seized from the possession of the relatives and aides of the former Sanakhemundi MLA.

In another development, it was found that the seized Lexus car belonging to Jena has not been registered yet, police sources added.

Meanwhile, the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court here on Sunday allowed police to take Jena on a fresh seven-day remand for further interrogation.

The arrested MLA was produced before the court today as his remand period ended today. Prior to producing him before the court, the police had prayed to the court to take Jena on a fresh seven-day remand.

Meanwhile, Jena has landed in fresh trouble after two new cases were filed against him yesterday. A murder case and an attempt to murder case have been filed against the ex-legislator. The cases have been filed in BNpur and Town police stations, respectively.

On Thursday, police had raided Jena’s house at Gambhariguda village under Patapur police station limits in Ganjam district and seized two revolvers and some incriminating documents.

According to police sources, Jena has 12 cases pending against his name at various police stations in Ganjam police district and 13 cases in Berhampur police district.

Police have established his involvement in murder, thrashing and maiming people, tender fixing, forcible possession and purchase of private land by threatening people, gutkha trade, country liquor trade and transport business.

A team of Berhampur Police had arrested Jena on March 6 along with his three associates from Bhubaneswar in connection with the February 29 bomb explosion in the house of a local corporator.
