Malkangiri/ Ganjam: Four persons went missing while one fisherman was rescued in a critical condition in two separate incidents of boat capsize in Malkangiri and Ganjam districts today.

Four persons including three women and a minor went missing after a boat they were onboard capsized in Barlabandh canal under Nakamamudi panchayat of Malkangiri district on Monday.

According to reports, the incident occurred when the boat carrying around seven persons, who were returning home after finishing their agriculture work, capsized in the canal yesterday evening.

While three among the seven persons managed to swim bank to the bank of the canal, four others went missing.

Locals after getting information about the incident have launched a rescue operation to trace the missing persons.

In Ganjam, six fishermen swam back safely to shore while one identified as D Sanyasi was rescued in critical condition after the boat they were travelling in capsized in sea near Gokharkuda in the district early morning today.

Sanyasi was initially rushed to Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Ganjam and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

According to sources, the boat overturned following a high tide and later capsized in the sea.
