Sambalpur: Four persons were killed and six others critically injured after a truck reportedly rammed into makeshift shops set up at a local fair during Dhanu Jatra festival at Paramanapur under Sasan police limits of Sambalpur district on Tuesday.

According to initial reports, vendors were asleep when the truck driver lost control and rammed into their shops at around 4 am today. The injured were immediately shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla.

However, three of them were declared brought dead while another succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment. The condition of two of the six injured persons was stated to be critical.

Speaking about the mishap, the relative of an injured person said, "The vendors had set up their shops at Paramanapur fair. They were asleep at around 4 am when the truck rammed into their shops."

"The vendors were asleep after having foods at night and the truck knocked down the shops and fled," said another relative of an injured person.

Sources said the driver of the truck escaped from the spot after the mishap leaving behind the vehicle. The police visited the spot and launched a probe into the matter.
