Dhenkanal: At least four persons were killed while several injured as the boundary wall of an abandoned rice mill located near Alasua market in Dhenkanal collapsed on Sunday. The wall reportedly collapsed when there was a rush in the market.

The injured have been admitted to the nearby hospital and their condition is stated to be critical. Besides, several bikes were reportedly damaged in the incident.

As per reports, the locals had earlier informed the district administration about the dilapidated condition of the wall; however, no step was taken by the administration.

"Suddenly the wall collapsed in the market. While four died on the spot and 11 were injured and four two-wheelers were damaged," said Deepak Behera, an eyewitness.

ODRAF and Odisha Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and rescued several persons trapped under the debris.

Meanwhile, Dhenkanal Collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25,000 each to the next of kin of the deceased.

"We will look into the matter and necessary action will be taken thereafter," said the Collector.

"We will find out the dilipaidated buildings in the area and demolish them," said Rashmita Mishra, engineer, Dhenkanal municipality.
