Rayagada: At least four persons were killed and one person sustained critical injuries in a road accident at Kashipur block in Rayagada district late on Sunday night.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Rabi Muduli and Papu Majhi of Dengaguda village, whereas the identity of the other two is yet to be ascertained.

The mishap took place when the passengers were returning to Dengaguda from Rayagada after watching ‘Chaiti Mahotsav'. As per reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle following which it rammed into a roadside tree resulting in the death of three persons at the spot.

Subsequently, two of the injured were shifted to Rayagada District Headquarters hospital in a critical condition where doctors declared one of them dead. Condition of the other person is stated to be critical.

As per latest reports, locals staged a road blockade on Rayagada- Kashipur highway disrupting vehicular movement.

It is pertinent to mention that at least two persons were killed and as many as 72 persons including women and children were injured in separate road mishaps in the State on December 28.
