Odisha: 4 Critical As Transformer Explodes In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, four persons sustained critical burn injuries after an electricity transformer exploded accidentally near a makeshift food stall in front of the OMFED plant at Chadrasekharpur in the city today.

All the injured persons work at the food stall. Two among them are father and son who belong to Dhenkanal district while two others were working at the shop, reports said.

The incident took place at around 5 am today while they were preparing morning snacks in the stall. The makeshift stall caught fire after the transformer which was installed closed to their stall went off accidentally.

The scalding oil from the transformer fell on people working at the stall leaving them seriously injured.

Nearby stall owners ran to safer place soon after the accident and informed police and fire services personnel who rushed to the spot and doused the flame.

Police have rescued all the injured persons and shifted them to Capital hospital for treatment.

Their condition is stated to be critical.

Though the exact reason of the explosion has not immediately been ascertained, poorly maintained transformer is said to be the cause of such a tragedy.
