Nayagarh: Three persons were killed and two other sustained critical injuries after two motorcycles collided with each other near the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) office in Sarankula area of Nayagarh district late on Thursday night.

The three deceased have been identified as Krushna Chandra Nayak and Muna Nayak of Jagannathpur area while Shyam Sundar Sethi hailed from Patharkata area in the district.

The injured two, one of them identified as Dilip Sethi, were initially admitted to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated.

As per reports, Shyam Sundar along with Dilip and his other friend (yet to be identified) were travelling to Sarankul in a motorbike while Krushna Chandra and Muna were returning to their homes at Jagannathpur in another bike when the fatal accident took place near the SDPO office.

Police reached the spot after receiving information from the locals and rushed them to the hospital. However, Krushna Chandra was declared brought dead while Muna and Shyam Sundar succumbed while undergoing treatment at the DHH.

Further investigation into the incident is underway by the police.
