Jajpur/Khurda/Visakhapatnam: As many as three persons were killed and nine others sustained injuries in separate mishaps that took place in Jajpur, Khurda and Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam during the annual Rath Yatra celebration today.

In the first incident, two persons died and seven sustained critical injuries after the chariot they were pulling came in contact with a live electric wire during Rath Yatra celebration at Tisco Mines colony near Kaliapani in Jajpur. Later, the injured persons were rushed to Tata hospital and were undergoing treatment till the last report came in.

In another incident, an 8-year-old boy lost his life after coming under the wheel of a chariot at Banpur village in Balugaon area of Khurda district. As per reports, the minor boy sustained critical injuries after he came under the wheels of the chariot during the Rath Yatra celebration at Paltana field of the village. Soon after the incident, the minor boy was rushed to Balugaon hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Apart from Odisha, mishap during Rath Yatra celebration was also reported from Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam. Two persons suffered critical injuries after the chariot they were pulling came in contact with an electric pole during Rath Yatra celebration in Parvathipuram area of Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh.
