Dhenkanal: Lakhs of devotees thronged Joranda in the district to witness the world famous Magha Mela, also known as the Joranda Mela that kicked off on Monday. This is the 146th Mela being held at the place delivering message of universal peace among the fellow beings.

According to sources, Magha Chaturdasi, Guru Purnima and Baba Purnima will be celebrated in the 3-day long mela. Praying for universal peace and prosperity, ‘Dipa Prajwalana’ (Lighting of diya) will be carried out in these three days.

Thousands of devotees gathered for ‘Mundan’ (Tonsuring of head) for fulfilment of their wishes and desires.

Meanwhile, the Mahima Samaj has made foolproof arrangements for the 3-day congregation.  “All necessary arrangements have been made for the devotees.  We have ensured adequate Water, electricity, accommodation, food, health care facilities for Mahima saints and devotees coming from distant places” said Baba Abhinash, a Mahima saint.

“This is a pious place, and we have come here to receive blessings of our Guru,” said another Mahima Saint, Raghunath Das.

On the other hand, elaborate security arrangements were put up by the district administration to ensure peaceful celebration of the Mela. “We have taken all necessary steps to prevent any untoward incident. Police forces have been deployed for crowd management and maintaining law and order,” said Dhenkanal Sub-Collector, Safalya Mandit Pradhan.
