Bhubaneswar: The upcoming general elections will certainly be challenging for Commissionerate police in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, said Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty. In an exclusive interview to OTV, Mohanty asserted that the year 2018 was a good learning experience for Commissionerate Police as it successfully hosted mega events including the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup.

“The 2019 elections will be certainly difficult keeping in view the massive rallies by various political parties and VVIP visits and security arrangements need to be made simultaneously with regular crime control. But despite the challenges, the Commissionerate Police had successfully conducted the 2014 elections and the experience will certainly come handy in 2019,” said Mohanty.

Mohanty further informed that the recently concluded international events will also provide an experience to the officers in organising events in hassle-free manner. Moreover, the focus of Commissionerate Police in 2019 will be on curbing illegal narcotics and firearm trade in the twin cities, he added.

“Though we have been successful in busting several rackets, the roots of narcotics trade spread beyond Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. We need to go to the supply source and we are taking assistance of EOW and special task force as well. Our effort is to make Cuttack and Bhubaneswar crime-free,” said Mohanty.
