Sambalpur/Keonjhar: In an unfortunate incident, two persons were killed and many others including elderly women and children sustained injuries after a bus they were travelling in collided head-on with a tanker near Kayakuda on Sambalpur-Rairakhol road. The deceased have been identified as residents of Balichandrapur area in Jajpur.

According to sources, the mishap occurred last night when the bus packed with over 40 passengers from Balichandrapur was returning from a picnic in Sambalpur. While one person was killed on the accident spot, another succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in the District Sadar Hospital.

This apart, 20 other passengers of which many are still critical, have been shifted to Sambalpur Sadar Hospital and Burla Hospital.

"One person was brought dead, while another died in the hospital. Of the injured, there are two men, eight women and one child under constant supervision of the doctors here. We are just screening those with orthopedics problem and preliminary treatment of all the injured has been done," informed Dr KK Gupta, Sambalpur CDMO.

Meanwhile, Jujumura police has initiated an investigation into the incident.

In another mishap, two persons were killed while one person sustained critical injuries after an unidentified vehicle hit the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in near Kandara village under Joda police limits in Keonjhar district late last night.
