Bhubaneswar: As many as 17 residents from Odisha who had gone to Oman to work there as labourers are stranded in the foreign shores.

While eight of the stranded labourers hail from Ganjam district, rest of them are from Balasore and Bhubaneswar. According to sources, all of them had gone to Muscat, capital of Oman, in search of work and were allegedly tortured.

The labourers have alleged that they did not receive wages for the past five months and even denied basic necessities like food and health care facilities following which they staged a protest in front of the J&P Company.

The labourers demanded immediate release of their salary, visas and passports which have been held by company authorities and also urged the administration to make necessary arrangements to ensure their safe return to India.

As per reports, labourers from other states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, Telangana and Rajasthan are also stranded.
