Kendrapara/Ganjam: Panic gripped residents of Kora village in Patkura block of Kendrapara district as 17 Cobras were rescued from a Jagannath temple in the locality today.

After the priest of the temple spotted the snakes inside the premises, he called up the villagers, sources said.

The villagers then informed snake helpline, whose members rescued 17 cobras, added sources.

"The priest of the Jagannath temple called me and informed about the movement of the snakes in the temple." said member of Kendrapara snake helpline, Prafulla Kumar Mallick.

After getting information, I rushed to the spot and rescued 17 snakes, added Mallick.

In another incident, an 11-feet King Cobra was rescued from a pond in Pankar village of Buguda block in Ganjam district.

As per reports, the cobra was trapped in a fish net which was placed in the pond to catch fish.

After the villagers spotted the King Cobra, they informed the snake helpline officials who reached the spot and rescued the snake, said sources.

Later, the snake was released into the nearby forest.
