Bhubaneswar: Making its intention clear that no traffic violations and lapses as far as road safety is concerned will be tolerated, Odisha police arrested 160 drunk drivers following a massive crackdown launched in several parts of the State in the last 24 hours.

Informing the development, acting DGP Satyajit Mohanty on Saturday said that 160 persons were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. A highest of 27 drunk drivers were arrested in Ganjam district.

A biker was also fined Rs 10,000 on the charges of drunken driving in Banki of Cuttack district. As per reports, the motorcyclist was caught during a vehicle checking by RTO and Banki police near Jatamundia chhak today.

The accused biker was detained at Banki police station till last reports came in.

Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera today informed that despite relaxations for three months, strict enforcement against dangerous and life threatening actions will continue from tomorrow (December 1).

The traffic violations which will attract fines as per the existing provisions include:

1. Driving at a speed exceeding the specified limit (over speeding)
2. Red Light Jumping
3. Drunken Driving
4. Driving Against Flow Of Traffic
5. Using Mobile Phone While Driving
6. Dangerous Driving
7. Triple Riding on Two Wheeler
8. Not Wearing Helmet
9. Not Wearing Seat Belt
10. Overloading
