Puri:  As many as 23 persons, including seven servitors and 13 others associated with various services at the Puri Jagannath temple have tested positive for Covid-19, informed Ajay Jena, Administrator (Development), Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) on Tuesday.

According to Jena, seven servitors and three of their family members, eight workers engaged at the shoe-stand in front of Singhadwar, a security personnel belonging to the Jagannath Temple Police and a gardener has also tested positive for the infection.

“All the persons, who have tested positive for Covid-19, have been asked to remain in home isolation for 10 days. Efforts are being made by SJTA to ensure that the temple rituals do not get affected. We are hopeful to resume Covid-19 vaccination drive from tomorrow,” Jena added.

A 13-year-old female tourist, who arrived in Puri from Surat along with her parents, has also tested positive for Covid-19. Though the minor girl’s antigen test report came positive, she will undergo an RT-PCR test for further confirmation, official sources said.

However, the minor girl’s parents have tested negative for Covid-19. The antigen tests of the family were conducted after their arrival at Puri railway station.

As per the I &PR department, Odisha on Monday witnessed the biggest spike of 1784 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours. Of the total 1784 cases, Nuapada district reported the maximum of 303 cases, followed by Sundergarh (241), Khordha (201) and Bolangir (91).

53 cases have been reported from different parts of Puri district in the past 24 hours, tweeted I &PR department.
