Rourkela: A day after the officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) recovered nearly 13 kg gold while it was being transported in Howrah-Mumbai Jnaneswari Express, it has come to the fore that the gold was being smuggled from countries like UAE, Dubai, China, Bangaldesh and Myanmar to India.

As per reports, the two accused Dhanraj Mahadev Jadhav and R N Rahul have been arrested by DRI. Sources revealed that the gold bars were being smuggled from different countries through ships and flights to Kolkata and later sent to Mumbai through trains.

A DRI team on Thursday had conducted a raid on the train between Rourkela and Jharsuguda in Odisha and recovered 110 gold bars weighing nearly 12.932 kg.

The cost of the gold bars, marked Al Etihad-UAE 10, ARG and MTM on them, is estimated to be around Rs 4.92 crore. Sources added that the DRI team already had information about the illegal transportation of gold through Janeswari Express.
