Nabarangpur: The district police on Wednesday rescued as many as 12 labourers, including three minors, while they were being trafficked to work in Chennai and Tripura. The police have also detained two middlemen from the spot and are interrogating them to elicit more information on the incident.

Acting on an input on migration of some labourers to outside of Odisha, police searched a bus heading towards Visakhapatnam from Umerkote near MTK Chhak. Cops asked the two agents to show necessary documents. However as they failed to produce the papers, the police took them into custody.

During preliminary investigation, the police found that the labourers are residents of Kalahandi district and Umerkote and Tentulikhunti areas of Nabarangpur district.

"We got an information about some middlemen taking 12 labourers out of the State following which we intercepted the vehicle bus and rescued the group which includes seven male and five female persons," informed Nabarangpur inspector-in-charge Tariq Ahmed.
