Bargarh: The 11-day Dhanu Jatra will conclude in Bargarh today. The annual festival which kicked off on January 11 will end with the death of the demon king Kansa.

On Sunday, the entire Bargarh town that resembled Mathura during the festival was rejoiced as Lord Krishna and Balaram came to the town on king Kansa's invitation. The residents of Mathura welcomed the brothers by drawing rangoli and jhoti outside their houses and revering them as they passed through the lanes of the town.

Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Panda, Western Odisha Development Council (WODC) chairman Kishore Kumar Mohanty, Bargarh MLA Debesh Acharya and District Collector Indramani Tripathy attended the festival yesterday.

DIG (Northern range) Satyabrata Bhoi who also attended the jatra said, "I pray to the almighty that the residents of Bargarh stay in peace. Besides, adequate police arrangements have been made to ensure that the festival concludes smoothly."

During the 11-day Yatra, which is the theatrical enactment of the mythological tale of Lord Krishna, Bargarh town adorned the guise of Mathura Nagari, while Ambapalli gets decked up as Gopapura to witness the ‘Krishna Leela.’
