Nuapada: At least 10 persons were injured after a wild bear attacked them at Karangmala village under Boden police station in Nuapada district on Sunday.

According to reports, the bear strayed into the village yesterday morning and attacked the villagers. While eight injured were rushed to Kharial Hospital, two others were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after their condition deteriorated, reports added.

“My father had taken the cattle to graze when the bear attacked him. I took him to the hospital and got him first aid. Later the wild animal, which strayed into the village, attacked me too in the evening,” said an injured Heramb Majhi.

“Two persons among the injured have sustained critical injuries. They have been given medication and under observation,” informed a doctor at Kharial hospital, P.Chandra Achari.

Later, forest officials rushed to the spot after getting information and launched an operation to drive away the animal to nearby forest.

Till the last reports came in, the bear was yet to be caught. Further reports awaited.
