1 dead, several injured as bus turns turtle in Boudh

Phulbani: At least one person was killed and more than 15 others injured in a bus mishap at Mading chhak on National Highway-57 in Boudh district early this morning.

According to sources, the bus 'Jay Mataji' carrying 40 passengers en route to Sinapalli of Nuapada district from Bhubaneswar met with the accident near Mading Chhak.

One person identified as Sarada Bal, a resident of Khariar was killed in the accident while five were rescued in critical condition.

Puruna Cuttack Police with the help of locals rescued the trapped passengers and admitted them to local community health centre. Some were rushed to the Boudh district headquarters hospital while the five critically injured passengers were shifted to Burla Hospital.

The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained but eyewitnesses suspect that the bus driver might have lost control of the vehicle as it veered off the road and turned upside down.

A police investigation is underway into the incident.
