Bhubaneswar: One candidate died and as many as four others were taken ill while undergoing physical efficiency test (PET) during recruitment drives for police constables at different places in Odisha today.

Sources said one Susant Nayak of Biswanathpur village in Kalahandi district suddenly fell unconscious while undertaking a PET during police constable recruitment drive in Bhawanipatna. He was immediately rushed to nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead.

In another incident, two candidates were taken ill while taking the physical test in Keonjhar today.

Similarly, in Sambalpur, two other candidates identified as Sanjay Kumar Deep, a resident of Sakhipada, and Haridarshan Choudhury from Parmanpur village fell sick during a recruitment drive for constables.

Sources said both the candidates who participated in a 5km running event suddenly fell sick towards the last part of the event. Both fell unconscious and were immediately rushed to Sadar hospital.

They have been admitted to a special ward for treatment of sunstroke patients.

Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora visited the hospital and took stock of the health condition of both the candidates.

Earlier on Thursday, a girl candidate of Jangira village under Pandapada police limits also fell sick during a sprinting test for police constable recruitment in Keonjhar.

On August 8, a youth identified as Suresh Pradhan of Nukhapada village under Narsinghpur block in Cuttack died of suspected cardiac arrest while undergoing a physical test for police constable recruitment while two others were taken ill.
