Woman attempts self- immolation

Kamakhyanagar: A woman attempted suicide by setting herself ablaze at Saruali village near here in Dhenkanal district today.

The victim, identified as Mangei Naik was admitted to Kamakhyanagar health centre with critical burn injuries. Later, she was shifted to Cuttack as her condition deteriorated.

Family members said she took such drastic step as she is mentally retarded. However, the exact reason of attempt of self immolation has not been known.

"We did not trace her since last night. Later, my nephew told me that she was lying on the bank of river Brahmani after setting herself afire. I immediately took her to hospital. Her mental condition was not stable," said Bhikarinath Naik, a relative.
