Western disturbance: IMD predicts fresh rainfall, thunderstorm in Odisha; yellow warning for several districts

A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from the night of March 29, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday. Scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall activity with thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by gusty winds is likely to prevail over northeast India.

IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar has also predicted that several parts of Odisha will also experience thunderstorm with lightning activities till April 1, 2023.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind with speed reaching up to 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, and Ganjam.

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, and Keonjhar.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 28.03.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 29.03.2023)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind with speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 29.03.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 30.03.2023)

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 30.03.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 31.03.2023)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind with speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Bargarh, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Sonepur.

Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 31.03.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 01.04.2023)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind with speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Khordha, Boudh.

Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Kendrapara, and Bhadrak.
