Odisha is all set to experience heavy rainfall in the coming days with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting formation of back-to-back low pressure areas over the Bay of Bengal in a span of one week.
According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, the first low pressure system is likely to form over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal around August 7. The formation of a second low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal is expected by August 13 or 14.
As per sources, the second system may intensify into a depression triggering heavy rainfall. The enhanced rainfall activity may dampen the Independence Day celebrations in the State on August 15.
The regional meteorological centre in a press release on Thursday said that "Under influence of gradual strengthening of monsoon flow and the anticipated low pressure area, rainfall activity very likely to increase gradually from 5th August and widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur during 6th to 10th August, 2022 over the districts of Odisha."
The weather office issued heavy rainfall warning for the next four days. Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Gajapati and Ganjam on Saturday, it said.
Similarly, the Met issued a yellow warning of 7-11 cm heavy rain in some parts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Puri, Boudh, Angul, Khordha, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, and Bhadrak on Sunday.
An orange warning of very heavy rainfall up to 20 cm has been issued for some areas of Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha Malkangiri and Koraput on Monday.
