  • Thunderstorm with lightning warning for several districts till 26 May

Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued ‘Yellow Warning’ for several districts of Odisha for the next five days.

As per the midday bulletin of the Bhubaneswar MeT centre, conditions are favourable for further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of Southwest Bay of Bengal, most parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal, entire Andaman Sea and Andaman Islands and some parts of East-central Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours.

Five Day Forecast and Yellow Warning:

Day 1(valid from 1:30pm IST of May 21 till 8:30am IST of May 22)

Yellow Warning - Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching up to 30-40kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri.

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Jajpur and Bhadrak.

Day 2 (Valid from 8:30am IST of May 22 to 8:30am IST of May 23)

Yellow Warning- Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Koraput and Malkangiri.

No warnings issued for Day 3 (Valid from 8:30am IST of May 23 to 8:30am IST of May 24)

Day 4(Valid from 8:30am IST of May 24 to 8:30am IST of May 25)

Yellow Warning - Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati.

Day 5 (Valid from 8:30am IST of May 25 to 8:30am IST of May 26)

Yellow Warning- Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha.

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj.

Taking cognizance of the warnings, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued an advisory to all concerned officials to take steps to circulate the warning message among the public and closely monitor the situation and to take action as deemed necessary in case of any eventuality.

The SRC has also directed to report details of the incidents, if any, to the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC).
