Thunderstorm with 50-60 kmph gusty surface wind to lash several Odisha districts; IMD issues orange warning

As per IMD, several parts of Odisha will continue to experience thunderstorm activities in the coming days as well.  An orange and yellow alert has been issued for several districts of the state for thunderstorm, lightning, gusty surface wind and hailstorm.

IMD issues orange warning for thunderstorm

Light to moderate rainfall has occurred at many places over the districts of interior Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of Coastal Odisha in the past 24 hours, informed India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.

As per IMD, several parts of Odisha will continue to experience thunderstorm activities in the coming days as well.  An orange and yellow alert has been issued for several districts of the state for thunderstorm, lightning, gusty surface wind and hailstorm.

Day 1 (Valid upto 0830 hrs IST of 28.04.2025)

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and hailstorm with heavy rainfall very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh,Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Balasore,Bhadrak, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput .

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur,Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 28.04.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 29.04.2025)

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and hailstorm very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar,Bhadrak, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur .

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 29.04.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 30.04.2025)

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and hailstorm with heavy rainfall very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and heavy rainfall very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Jajpur, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Gajapati.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 30.04.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 01.05.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and Heavy Rainfall very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Ganjam.
