At least two persons have died due to sunstroke so far in Odisha. As per the State Health Department, one sunstroke death has been reported from Dhenkanal district. Earlier, the first sunstroke death was reported in Balasore district.

Health department officials informed that as many as 257 persons were hospitalised due to sunstroke or heat-related illness in different parts of the state. The highest 60 health-related cases have been reported from the Sundargarh district, followed by 40 in Mayurbhanj and 36 cases from Khordha district. Of the total 36 cases reported from Khordha district, 18 persons are undergoing treatment at Capital hospital in Bhubaneswar.

It is pertinent to mention here that Odisha is currently experiencing an intense spell of heat wave conditions for over two weeks. On Monday, Keonjhar recorded the highest maximum temperature of 43 degrees by 2:30 pm, followed by 42.8 degrees in Jharsuguda and 42.6 in Sambalpur. Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 41.3 degrees by 2:30 pm today.

IMD today informed that there will be no major change in the maximum temperature for the next three to four days. Red warning for severe heat wave conditions has been issued for several districts.

Orange Warning: Heatwave condition is very likely to prevail in the districts of Khordha, Bhadrak, Sambalpur, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, kendrapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nawarangpur, Deogarh, Nuapada. Sundergarh, Jharsugada.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 01.05.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 02.05.2024)

Red Warning: Heatwave to severe heatwave is condition very likely to prevail in the districts of Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Keonjhar.
