SRC issues advisories to 15 districts as IMD issues yellow warning for 5 days 

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has directed the Collectors of 15 districts to keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality. The direction came following the yellow warning issued for five days to the districts by the regional centre of India Meteorological Department in Bhubaneswar. 

The alert has been issued for the districts like Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Kandhamal, Khordha, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Gajapatai and Ganjam. 

The advisories issued for the Collectors are as follows:

- Keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality.

- People may be advised to keep watch on weather and take safe shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas

- Continuous vigil of low-lying areas, dewatering wherever required including urban areas may be taken up 

- Rainfall may be reported immediately to the office

- Submit a report on the damage, if occurred due to thunderstorm, whirlwind, hailstorm and lightning immediately for information of the government

Day 1 (Valid up to 8:30 hrs IST of 22.05.2023)

Yellow warning: Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapara and thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Khordha, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Gajapati and Ganjam. 

Day 2 (Valid from 8.30 hrs IST of 22.05.2023 to 8.30 hrs IST of 23.05.2023) 

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati.

Day 3 (Valid from 8.30 hrs IST of 23.05.2023 to 8.30 hrs IST of 24.05.2023) 

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Koraput.

Day 4 (Valid from 8.30 hrs IST of 24.05.2023 to 8.30 hrs IST of 25.05.2023)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Khordha, Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri.

Day 5 (Valid from 8.30 hrs IST of 25.05.2023 to 8.30 hrs IST of 26.05.2023)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Jharsuguda.
