The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted that rainfall and thunderstorm activities over Northwest India are likely to continue till May 31, 2023 and decrease gradually thereafter.

As per IMD, the conditions are favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon into some more parts of the south Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the next 24 hours.

“A cyclonic circulation lies over southwest Rajasthan & adjoining Pakistan in lower tropospheric levels. An east-west trough runs from the cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan to central parts of south Uttar Pradesh in lower tropospheric levels,” said IMD.

Northwest India

Hailstorm very likely at isolated places over north Rajasthan, Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh on 29 & 30 and over Uttarakhand during 29 -31 May, Punjab on 29 May.

Thundersquall/Gusty Wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph is very likely at isolated places over Haryana, Delhi on 29; Rajasthan on 29 & 30; Uttarakhand on 31 May. Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over north Rajasthan on 29 May; Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on 31 May.

Central India

Light/moderate isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds is very likely over Madhya Pradesh during next 2 days and reduction thereafter. Thundersquall/Gusty Wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph & hailstorm very likely at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh on 29 May.

South India

Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu on 29, Kerala on 29 & 30 May; South Interior Karnataka on 30 & 31 and Coastal Karnataka on 31 May.
