Orange warning for heavy rainfall in 4 Odisha districts; low pressure likely between May 5 and 11

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued an orange warning for heavy rainfall in four districts of Odisha.

As per the IMD, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind with speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph and heavy rainfall are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati in the next 24 hours.

IMD Bhubaneswar Regional Centre scientist, Umasankar Das informed that several parts of the state may experience thunderstorm activities over the next four to five days. Similarly, there is a possibility of an increase in maximum temperature.

According to Das, a low-pressure area is likely to form over south Bay of Bengal region between May 5 and May 11.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 02.05.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 03.05.2023)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 03.05.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 04.05.2023)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 04.05.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 05.05.2023)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati.

Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 05.05.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 06.05.2023)
