Orange and yellow warnings for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds for Odisha districts: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted that there will be no large change in the maximum temperature (day temperature) for the next 6-7 days over the districts of Odisha.

The maximum temperature (day temperature) is very likely to be equal to or above 40°C in the isolated pockets in the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, and Boudh. However, there is the possibility of thunderstorm activities in different parts of Odisha, which will continue for the next few days.

The IMD has issued an orange warning for thunderstorms with lightning, with gusty surface wind speeds reaching 50- 60 kmph in some districts of Odisha in the next 24 hours.  A yellow warning for thunderstorms has also been issued for some districts of the state till May 21, 2025.

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50- 60 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Nabarangapur, Nuapada, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40- 50 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 18.05.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 19.05.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Bolangir, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 19.05.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 20.05.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Koraput, Rayagada.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 20.05.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 21.05.2025)
