Orange and yellow warning for thunderstorm issued for Odisha districts; check IMD’s forecast

As per the IMD, the upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood now lies over central part of south Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood. 

Thunderstorm Alert For Odisha Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorm activities in several parts of Odisha in the next coming days.

As per the IMD, the upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood now lies over central part of south Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood. 

Similarly, the trough from above cyclonic circulation over northeast Madhya Pradesh to south coastal Odisha now runs above cyclonic circulation over central part of south Madhya Pradesh to south Gangetic West Bengal across Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha and extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

The IMD has issued orange alert for thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph, hailstorm and heavy rainfall in some parts of Odisha in the next 24 hours.

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and hailstorm is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at a few places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Angul, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Koraput. 

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Angul, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam,Koraput.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 16.04.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 17.04.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Nabarangapur, Balasore.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 17.04.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 18.04.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 18.04.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 19.04.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at Mayurbhanj, Keonjhargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi.
