The people across Odisha on Saturday got much respite from cold wave conditions after the minimum (night) temperature registered a gradual rise in the past 24 hours.

As per a bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Sundergarh was the coldest place in the State with a minimum temperature of 8 degree Celsius. Daringbadi and Phulbani in Kandhamal district recorded minimum temperature of 8.5 degree Celsius.

A total of nine towns in the State recorded minimum temperatures below 12 degrees.

Sonepur, Bolangir and Jharsuguda recorded minimum temperature below 11 degree Celsius on Friday night. Similarly, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded minimum temperature of 13.5 and 14.6 degree Celsius, respectively.

According to the IMD forecast issued on Friday, there will be a gradual rise in the minimum temperature (night temperature) by 2 to 3 degree Celsius during the next two days and no large change thereafter over the districts of Odisha.

IMD has also predicted light to moderate rain and thundershower activities in some parts of the State ahead of New Year next week.

Forecast:

Day-4 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 27.12.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 28.12.2021) Light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Sambalpur and Deogarh.

Day-5 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 28.12.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 29.12.2021) Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh and Sundargarh.
